Welcome Letter from the Principal
Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh – Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
Welcome to NorthWest Islamic School. As a weekend school serving Calgary’s diverse Muslim
community, we are honoured to support the spiritual, intellectual, and moral growth of your children.
Every child who enters our doors is entrusted to us as an amanah – a responsibility we hold with the
deepest care.
Founded by Dr. Adnan Mansoor and Mrs. Aliya Adnan in 2001, our school is rooted in the conviction that
Muslim children in Canada deserve a nurturing space to build a strong Islamic identity while developing
the confidence to contribute meaningfully to the broader society. Our holistic approach, grounded in
the Quran and Sunnah, ignites curiosity, builds character, and fosters belonging.
The most impactful education happens through partnership. I invite you to be active participants in your
child’s journey – through engagement at home, volunteering at school, and joining our growing
community of dedicated families.
As you read through this prospectus, I hope you will see reflected in these pages the warmth, rigour,
and sincerity that define our school. Whether your family is joining us for the first time or returning for
another year, know that you are deeply valued and warmly welcomed.
May Allah bless our children, our families, and our community with knowledge that benefits, hearts that
are humble, and actions that are accepted. Ameen.
With warm regards and duas,
The Principal
NorthWest Islamic School
Calgary, AB, Canada

Program Overview
NorthWest Islamic School operates as a weekend Islamic school with classes held every Saturday during
the academic year (September through May). Our program is thoughtfully designed to complement
students' weekday secular education by providing a comprehensive Islamic learning experience in a
warm, engaging, and structured environment.
What Makes Our Program Distinctive
Our program integrates five core pillars of learning, each carefully woven into the weekly experience:
● Quran Memorization & Recitation: Students develop a deep, personal connection with the
Quran through guided memorization (hifz) of selected surahs, beautiful recitation, and the study
of tajweed rules. Each student progresses at their own pace with individual attention and
encouragement.
● Islamic Studies: A comprehensive exploration of Islamic beliefs (aqeedah), worship (ibadah),
Prophetic biography (seerah), Islamic history, ethics, and jurisprudence (fiqh) – all delivered
through age-appropriate, engaging methods that make learning meaningful and relevant.
● Character Development: Grounded in the Prophetic example, our character education program
helps students internalize Islamic values such as honesty, kindness, patience, and gratitude – and
apply them in their everyday lives at home, at school, and in the community.
● Enrichment Activities: Nasheeds, arts and creative expression, group projects, community
service initiatives, and special events bring joy, creativity, and a sense of belonging to the
learning experience.
Our Learning Environment
We are committed to creating a learning space that is:
● Nurturing: Every child is valued, respected, and supported. We celebrate effort and growth, and
we meet students where they are.
● Inclusive: We welcome families from all cultural backgrounds and schools of thought within
Islam. Our diversity is our strength.
● Engaging: Our teachers use interactive, hands-on, and age-appropriate methods to make Islamic
learning come alive – because children learn best when they are actively involved and inspired.
● Safe: Physical, emotional, and spiritual safety are paramount. We maintain a supportive
environment where students can ask questions, explore their faith, and grow without fear.
