Leadership Development
Leadership at NWIS is rooted in the Qur’anic and Prophetic model of service, humility, responsibility,
and excellence. Our goal is to nurture young Muslims who lead by example – grounded in faith, guided
by knowledge, and committed to serving others.
Leadership skills are introduced gradually and intentionally across grade levels, ensuring students grow
in confidence, character, and capability.
Early Grades (KG-2): Students learn foundational leadership qualities such as responsibility, teamwork,
kindness, and helping others. They practice simple classroom roles, learn to follow instructions, and
understand how their actions affect those around them.
Middle Grades (3-5): Students begin developing confidence, communication skills, and initiative. They
take on small leadership roles, participate in group projects, and learn how to collaborate, solve
problems, and contribute positively to their class and school community.
Upper Grades (6-8): Students practice servant leadership by guiding peers, organizing school activities,
and embodying Islamic principles of justice, empathy, and excellence (Iḥsān). They learn to make
responsible decisions, support younger students, and lead with humility and integrity.
- Foundations of Leadership
- In the early years, leadership is taught through simple, meaningful habits that build responsibility and
empathy. Students learn: - How to help classmates and teachers
- How to work together in pairs and small groups
- How to take care of their belongings and classroom materials
- How their words and actions impact others
- How to follow routines and complete tasks with care
- These foundational skills help children understand that leadership begins with good character, kindness,
and responsibility.
- Growing Confidence & Initiative
- As students mature, they begin practicing leadership in more structured ways. They learn:
- How to communicate respectfully and confidently
- How to take initiative in class activities
- How to participate in group projects and contribute meaningfully
- How to solve small problems independently
- How to support classmates and encourage teamwork
Students may take on classroom roles (line leader, group facilitator, materials manager) and participate
in small communitybuilding projects. This stage focuses on confidence, communication, and
collaboration.
- Servant Leadership in Action
- Older students are encouraged to embody leadership as a form of service, following the Prophetic
model. They learn: - How to guide younger students with patience and kindness
- How to organize and support school activities
- How to make responsible decisions rooted in Islamic values
- How to practice justice, empathy, and excellence (Iḥsān)
- How to lead with humility, integrity, and sincerity
Students may assist teachers, lead group discussions, help manage school events, or participate in
serviceoriented projects. This stage prepares them to become faithdriven leaders who contribute
positively to their communities.
